Camille Norment

Camille Norment uses a mixture of sound, installation, light sculpture, drawing, performance, and video in her art. The U.S-born, Oslo-based artist addresses the socio-political, cultural potency of sound in her work. At a 2013 performance at the Kitchen, Norment, along with her ensemble, performed works from her album, Toll, in which sounds from disparate instruments such as the electric guitar, Norwegian Hardanger fiddle, and a rare glass harmonica were combined, creating strange mixtures that reflected the instruments’ varied histories. Norment has been selected to represent Norway at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015. “Sound, like experience, is fleeting” Norment said in the press release about her Venice selection “but it leaves traces in the mind and in the body.”
