Rainwire – A test recording with new pickups

The Rainwire project forms part of an art/science initiative to investigate environmental sonification of land based natural rainfall using large-scale long wire instruments.

Feb 16th – Test rainfall sonification recording of newly installed pickups on the Sputnik research wires. Two pickups on each wire. This recording is from the top wire (2.5mm diameter). The recording was made using two low power valve preamplifers (the silver cases in the images below), custom built at WIRED Lab, which cope better with large scale impulses than their transistorized counterparts. This recording was conducted as part of the Centre for Research in Complex Systems (CRiCSRainwire project at CSU.
